Of course there is bull fighting on Terceira. It is the more traditional form that you are probably imagining. It is held in an arena like that shown below. I had mixed feeling about this So, I never went to see this. If the matador is so brave and whatever they think he is… Why does he need four men to weaken and bleed the animal first!? I think the matador is a cowardly role.

There is another activity similar to running with the bulls in Spain. Except there is one bull at a time. The Portuguese keep the bull on ropes with two or three men holding it back. The brave run in the street as the bull tries to chase them. At times, the bull does break free! Although I have never witnessed this in person, I saw a YouTube video where a man jumped over a stone wall in front of a house. The bull chasing him was free and also jumped over the wall. Then, the man runs in an open door of the house. The bull runs through the open door as well… 5 people come diving out through a window!
