About Me
I inherited my love of all things nautical from my Uncle Edward in Glasgow, Scotland. Many hours were spent learning about the care of wooden boats, diesel engine maintenance, boat handling, coastal navigation, and sailing.
The Rosalie was a lifeboat from the Queen Mary; purchased by Uncle Edward during World War II when the Queen Mary was being refitted. From the Rosalie, Uncle Edward and I watched the slow progression as the QE2 was being built. Trips along the Firth of Clyde provided wonderful opportunities to apply the newly acquired knowledge. Sailing on the Irish Sea, I learned to respect the power of wind and wave.
Now, I am sailing my own boat; a 1982 Baba 35. Her name is Distant Horizon, which I have sailed down and up most of the eastern seaboard, Chesapeake Bay, Great Lake Ontario, and the New York State Canal System.
Now, I’ve planned a solo transatlantic voyage to honor Uncle Edward for this summer; 2022.
Sailing
I hold a Merchant Marine Officer license with a 100GRT Master rating for self-propelled and auxillary sail vessels. Additional endorsements include radar, assistance towing, and marine weather forecasting.
Photography
I have been playing with cameras most of my life. This includes working at Kodak on their Digital Camera System at the start of the digital revolution. Now, while on my adventures, I want to focus on Travel Photography.
Travel
I plan to travel by air. I won't be using my Private Pilot's license, but using the power of wind and sail. Some say, it's all about the journey. While others say, the destination. In my blog, I will be writing about the journeys and the destinations as well.
